   the green party
The Maryland Green Party is a political party, currently 3,700 members strong, and growing by over a hundred people every month. Our recent presidential candidate, Ralph Nader, got 55,000 votes in Maryland in the 2000 election, and nearly 3 million votes nationwide.

Greens are also part of an international movement for ecology, democracy, justice, and non-violence. Our members strive to attain these goals through a combination of civic activism and electoral politics.

The Democratic and Republican parties increasingly have become driven by big money, not by the grassroots. The values that once inspired these parties are long gone. In contrast, the Green Party is value based, inspired by the "ten key values" of:
  • Grassroots Democracy
  • Social Justice and Equal Opportunity
  • Ecological Wisdom
  • Nonviolence
  • Decentralization
  • Community-Based Economics and Economic Justice
  • Feminism and Gender Equity
  • Respect for Diversity
  • Personal and Global Responsibility
  • Future Focus
Slowly but surely, we are going to build a vibrant group of Green office holders in Maryland—local officials who care about ecology, justice, and democracy in their communities. Consider joining us.
