what's a state delegate?
Maryland is divided into 47 legislative districts, each represented in Annapolis by three state delegates and one state senator who serve four-year terms. Together with the governor and the Senate, the House of Delegates is responsible for making all state laws. They are also responsible for setting annual budgets and spending the nearly $22 billion dollars in annual revenues that Maryland collects—which means prioritizing money for health care, education, transportation, and environmental protection.

The average Maryland citizen doesn't hear much about, or from, their state delegates. In fact, most Marylanders can't name their state representatives. Yet these state officials make decisions that have a greater impact on your quality of life than do the decisions made by the national elected officials in Washington D.C.

On election day, November 5th, you will be able to cast votes for three delegates. There will be eight candidates on the ballot. The top three vote-getters will represent you for the next four years.
