Members of the Green Party know that all things are connected in the web of life. We are part of nature-- neither above it nor opposed to it-- and the future of our society depends upon our learning to live wisely in our own home.

MGP: Fastest Growing Party in Maryland1
In 2000, members in Baltimore and across the state collected over 10,000 petition signatures to put the Green Party on the Maryland ballot for the first time in history. Since becoming a recognized political party in 2000, the Maryland Green Party (MGP) leads all other political parties in Maryland in our rate of growth.

We think we know why: because the politics of Left versus Right doesn’t work anymore. As Paul H. Ray wrote:

  • The real ‘juice’ in progressive politics is no longer with the class and union and rural-urban struggles of the early 1900s; instead, the growing edge is in the feminist, ecological, anti– globalization, pro-civil-rights, pro-peace, pro-health-care, pro-education, pro-natural/organic and even pro-spiritual movements that together make up the New Progressives.
BCGP: Our Local is New, and We Are Growing
The Baltimore County Green Party is a progressive volunteer organization whose members are committed to issues including universal heath care, a living wage for all working Americans, and election campaign reform.

After the 2000 elections local members organized a core group of greens in the county. By February 2002 the Baltimore County Green Party (BCGP) was recognized by the state party. In addition to dozens of members and friends, there are over 1,200 registered Greens in Baltimore County-- a tremendous base for us to grow with.

One thing we all have in common is that we take seriously our civic responsibilities, and are determined to make clean, honest politics a reality in Baltimore County, and in DC.

Rick Kunkel 2002, first Green candidate in Baltimore County history. One of us, Rick Kunkel, took his civic responsibility so seriously that he ran in the 2002 elections in the 42nd district as the first Baltimore county Green candidate in history. To learn more about Rick's campaign in the new 42nd district, go to his website, or email Rick.

In 2004 three members of the BCGP ran for Congress: Keith Salkowski in the 2nd District, Patsy Allen in the 3rd District, and Greg Hemingway in the 6th District.

In 2006 Dave Goldsmith ran for MD House of Delegates in District 11. Dave received the endorsement of MD Universal Health Care Action Network (MD UHCAN.) Dave received 5,435 votes in a district with under 100 registered Greens.

The best way to learn about the BCGP is to come to our next monthly meeting or event. The fastest way to learn more about the BGP is to read about us in the local news outlets, or read our brochure.

The most immediate way to get involved is to help us online right now.

1 In addition to leading all parties in Maryland in our rate of growth, the Green Party is the only national political party to gain registered members since 2000. All other parties lost members, ranging from an 18% loss for the Reform Party to a .03% loss for the Republican Party. During this time, the Green Party gained 27.7%. (Source: Ballot Access News.)
